On January 14, the ARD magazine Fakt devoted a report to the attack in Magdeburg, highlighting the challenges of dealing with so-called lone offenders. Florian Hartleb, researcher at ACIPSS, was interviewed and provided well-founded insights into the complex dynamics of such cases.
In his statement, Hartleb emphasized:
“It is too populist for me to say right now that the authorities have failed. Especially in the case of so-called “lone wolves”, i.e. perpetrators who act alone when carrying out the crime, it is often difficult to assess the danger if the perpetrators are not obviously part of a terrorist network.”
