ACIPSS Director on ORF Styria: Warning of New IS Strategies

In an ORF Styria report on radicalisation, ACIPSS Director Paul Schliefsteiner gave an interview as an expert. The interview was prompted by a trial in Leoben, where an 18-year-old was convicted for supporting the so-called Islamic State.

Schliefsteiner warned of evolving strategies used by extremist groups: radicalised individuals may be trained to convincingly pretend that deradicalisation measures have been successful. The case also highlights an increasingly high level of technical sophistication, including strongly encrypted data storage and carefully concealed online activities. Terrorist propaganda remains a key tool and continues to include concrete instructions for carrying out attacks.
