On July 26, 2026, the Slovak broadcaster Slovenská televízia a rozhlas (STVR) aired a segment on its news program STVR Správy about Vienna’s role as an internationally significant hub for intelligence services, titled “Viedeň ako hlavné centrum špionáže v Európe” (“Vienna as the Most Important Center of Espionage in Europe”).
In the segment, Dieter Bacher and Paul Schliefsteiner spoke, explaining the historical and current factors that have made Vienna an important hub for intelligence activities for decades. In particular, they discussed the city’s geopolitical location, its international significance, and Vienna’s role as the headquarters of numerous international organizations.
