In an interview with the Kleine Zeitung newspaper, Dr. Jeremy Stöhs, security expert and deputy director of ACIPSS, analyzes current security policy challenges—from hybrid threats to targeted manipulation via social media.
Stöhs warns against dangerous complacency toward cyberattacks and propaganda: Even in Austria, state-sponsored attacks on ministries are ongoing, especially around times of government change. The goal is to influence political processes and divide societies.
Stöhs is particularly critical of the underestimated role of digital media in radicalization: Right-wing extremists today operate in a highly professional and emotional manner – and often on the fringes of legality.
His appeal: Security begins in the mind – through media literacy, critical thinking, and social resilience. Scientific institutions such as ACIPSS can make a key contribution here.
