ACIPSS Director Paul Schliefsteiner provided expert analysis on Zeit im Bild 2 regarding allegations against an employee of Austria’s Directorate for State Protection and Intelligence (DSN).
The official is accused of having accessed classified information unlawfully and possibly passing it on to radical Islamist circles.
Schliefsteiner noted that it is still too early to assess the potential impact on public trust in the agency. However, if the Ministry of the Interior’s account is confirmed – that the suspected “mole” was detected quickly thanks to new security mechanisms – this could even help strengthen confidence in the ongoing reforms within the DSN.
